It seems the height of irony that my trip to a shooting range would be with a liberal South Asian friend in uber-liberal San Francisco. I’ve always wanted to go to a shooting range but I’m not sure why I hadn’t back in Pittsburgh. Allegheny County has the highest per capita gun ownership rate in the country, after all, so it’s not as if there would be a shortage of ranges.
We tried the 9mm first, which was pretty easy to shoot. Accuracy quite optional. We chose a hostage target, with a bearded man holding a woman in front of him. I think he was patterned to look like Mahmoud Ahmedinajad. I hit the hostage on my third shot. d’oh!
After successfully killing both the hostage taker and hostage several times, we switched over to the shotgun. Man, that thing has a kick to it! I got off 4 rounds before my shoulder/chest started to hurt a little so I turned it back over to my friend. Eventually, we moved the target up to about 10 feet and just tried to blast away both the heads of both the hostage taker and hostage.
All in all, it was really fun. I don’t really feel like making any political statements about gun control or whatever. Suffice it to say that I’m not a fan of the NRA’s unlimited access position w.r.t. weapons nor do I necessarily agree with the liberal position that guns should so regulated as to be banned. Methinks I’ll have to go to the range sometime again though.
