Posted by I was thinking about the idea of reform the other day. And how one can really judge whether a criminal (or a certain Steelers’ QB) can be judged to have changed after punishment is meted out. Is he reformed? Has she really changed? Or is he really still a jerk or a deviant at heart? In truth, we can never know what is in another’s heart; we can only know anything from that person’s works.
We all carry weaknesses and dark impulses deep within us. A moral person knows these impulses are wing. So we work to subdue then, all the while hoping they won’t overcome us. Ultimately, actions are a person’s salvation for in them, we manifest the will to defeat our demons in favor of the better angels of our nature.
